Duke of Edinburgh Award

Posted on 6th September 2021

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a life-changing experience. A fun time with friends. An opportunity to discover new interests and talents. A tool to develop essential skills for life and work. A recognised mark of achievement that is respected by employers.Any young person can do their DofE – regardless of ability, gender, background or location. Achieving an Award isn’t a competition or about being first. It’s all about setting personal challenges and pushing personal boundaries.Through a DofE programme young people have fun, make friends, improve their self-esteem and build confidence. They gain essential skills and attributes for work and life such as resilience, problem-solving, team-working, communication and drive, enhancing CVs and uni and job applications. Top employers recognise the work-ready skills Award holders bring to their business. For several years now DofE has been run within a few companies within Dundee and Angus Battalion, but we recognise that it is such an important award that it should be available to all young people aged between 14 and 24 within our Battalion. This year the Battalion will run an open centre operating from the halls of the 1st Carnoustie Company on a Wednesday evening from 7.15pm to 9pm. DofE is designed to run alongside the BB Awards system, i.e. if you are working towards your President or your Queen’s Badge then you are most of the way towards achieving the DofE award and as it says above, having both these awards goes a long way when it comes to uni and job applications.More information about DofE is contained here https://www.dofe.org/do/what/.More detailed information about the programme and classes can be obtained by sending an email with the heading DofE to dundeeangus@boys-brigade.org.uk
